Build your Sandbox

When you build the sandbox, you have the right to define its rules. Not everyone will fit those rules. When someone is told they can't play, they may conclude the sandbox is bad. From their perspective, that feels true. Some people are simply not capable of working in that sandbox. They have two options: they can find another sandbox that suits them, or they can live in resentment toward the one that excluded them.

Some will choose to leave on their own, recognizing that the sandbox no longer aligns with their direction. When they depart, they often face external voices urging them to embrace resentment-calls to join in criticizing what they left behind. This external pressure can be strong, but it does not change the nature of the sandbox.

Amid the noise, it's critical to remember that loud opposition does not equate to influence. Those who dwell in resentment often amplify their voice, but their volume does not grant them authority. The true direction of the sandbox remains with those who contribute to its mission and uphold its values.

Even when someone is excluded, it doesn't mean they were inherently wrong. It simply means their goals or behaviors didn't align with the structure. Environments thrive when participants share a common purpose. Enforcing boundaries ensures the community's mission stays intact.

Finally, the purpose of any sandbox is to serve those who are in it. The focus should always be on creating a space where the participants can thrive, grow, and contribute. Those who leave or are asked to leave are no longer part of that mission. The measure of success is in how well those who remain achieve the shared vision.

In the end, the measure of any sandbox is not the volume of its critics or the number who leave. It is the clarity of its purpose and the integrity of those who choose to stay. Build the space with intention, enforce its boundaries with fairness, and let those inside define its success.
